Jewish men and boys wear under their shirts a simple white rectangular garment that has knotted fringes on each of its four corners. The Torah instructs the wearing of tzizit as a tangible reminder of the presence of God in the world and the need for Jews to obey the Torah’s commandments. It is easy for people in a busy day with work or school to forget their religious obligations. When a person wearing the tzizit sees the fringes, however, they remind him of his religious duty. For this reason the rectangular undergarment with fringes is worn during the day—when it is easy to see its parts-and not at night when it would often be hard to see the fringes. When KKSY members wear tzizit they align themselves with a practice followed by Jews all over the world.
