Ros Eisen, I was born in London UK, and still live in UK. My passion has always been for traveling. About 17 or so years ago, I planned a safari to Uganda, whilst there, I came across a very impoverished Jewish Community. My heart sank when I saw how desperately poor they were and how they dreamt of one day becoming an independent successful Jewish Community. Their commitment to Judaism was amazing.
When I returned to the UK I put my thinking cap on, rolled up my sleeves, and decided to do something about that. Little did I know that I’d still be doing it all these years later.
It’s been a pleasure working side by side with my Chairman Rabbi Sjimon den Holland, who calls me the ‘Engine’ of our committee. He is a true inspiration. Our Treasurer is a friend of mine that I met sailing in the Caribbean years before. Year by year our SJUA team is growing. All the members are wonderful people who have taught me so much, particularly about Sephardi Judaism.
I’m not an orthodox Jewess but working so closely with SJUA and the KKSY community reminds me regularly about my Jewish roots.
I hope that the work I’m doing will go a long way to making the lives of the KKSY Community much better and give them the opportunity to entirely support themselves, in the fullness of time.
